Schubert – Mass in G
Robert Ray – Gospel Mass

Aurora Borealis Chorus | David Baar
, conductor | Beverly Baar, piano

Alfreda Burke, soprano | Rodrick Dixon, tenor

Alfreda Burke and Rodrick Dixon join the Aurora Borealis Chorus to perform both Schubert’s Mass in G and Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass.

The early Mass in G-Major has always been a favorite with the experts. It is surely the most traditionally folksy of his masses. The intensity of this sacred arrangement is mainly found in its simplicity, the modest, personal experiencing of religious contemplation. The Mass in G-Major was written in 1815 and was intended for a performance in the parish church of Lichtental.

For the truly young at heart, there is not another work like this available! In a hip, gospel style, the Mass is presented for choir, various solos, and accompaniment for piano, bass and drums.

This performance will mark the first time we have brought in world-class vocalists to sing with the choir.  And both Alfreda and Rodrick are world-class – equally at home in the world of opera, gospel, and pop.  We are truly blessed that they will be here.  We hope that you join us for what will be a very special evening of music!
